The exam for selection of candidates will be held at 11 places in the state on June 19 and all those qualifying it will be given coaching for IIT entrance examination, he said.
Mr Kumar lauded the schemes of the state government in the field of education like the distribution of laptops and Kanya Vidyadhan Yojna.
Terming his efforts as "exemplary", Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav hailed Mr Kumar for honing the untapped potential of poor children facing adverse conditions.
"Often because of poverty, talented students fail to avail good opportunities over which they have equal right...Kumar is providing that opportunity to them and by doing so he is strengthening the society and country", Mr Yadav said.
