Supreme Court asked to review verdict cancelling common medical exam

Supreme Court asked to review verdict cancelling common medical exam
New Delhi: The Supreme Court has been asked to review its controversial decision to cancel the common entrance exam for all medical colleges.

That verdict, delivered last month, was seen by critics as a windfall for private universities who are accused of selling admission to the highest bidder. The government had said it was unhappy with the decision and was likely to appeal against it.

The petition that seeks a review of the judgement was filed today by an NGO. It points out that of one of the three judges who decided the case did not agree with the verdict. The NGO, Sankalp, claims that the dissenting judge said that an in-depth discussion was not held on the issue and that he was not given enough time to write his part of the judgement.
