New Delhi:
The Supreme Court has issued notices to three lawyers caught on video leading the violence at Delhi's Patiala House courts last week during the hearings of arrested JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar.
The top court also sought responses from the Centre and Delhi Police on a plea seeking a probe by a Special Investigation Team and contempt proceedings against the three lawyers.
The lawyers
Vikram Chauhan,
Yashpal Singh and Om Sharma were seen on television footage as prominent among those leading the violence against Kanhaiya Kumar, students and teachers from the Jawaharlal Nehru University and journalists.
All three lawyers who were summoned for questioning and released on bail immediately after a formal arrest on separate days were also caught in a sting operation by
news channel India Today TV purportedly "bragging and boasting" about the assault.
A plea filed by lawyer Kamini Jaiswal had sought a special investigation team to probe the incidents of violent attacks on February 15 and 17 by some advocates in the premises of Patiala House courts.
The lawyers have said they had attacked the students, teachers and journalists to protest activities at JNU where "anti-India" slogans were allegedly raised leading to the arrest of Kanhaiya Kumar and police cases against several others.
The Supreme Court has fixed the matter for further hearing on March 4.
