The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Bilaspur district in Chhattisgarh to submit all records, including the initial police complaint and status reports, on the police action taken on the alleged gang rape of a woman lawyer by her in-laws.
The woman lawyer had yesterday tried to commit suicide on the Supreme Court premises in front of the Chief Justice because her complaint of gang-rape had been ignored by the local police.
The lawyer alleged that she had been raped by her in-laws in November last year. She said that the police had failed to take any action after the FIR had been filed.
Chief Justice RM Lodha, who was hearing the case, also directed that security be provided to the advocate, who is currently undergoing treatment at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi.
Reports said the lawyer is out of danger and may take up to three days to be discharged.
The court also said the advocate can approach Delhi Legal Aid Society for any legal assistance she may require in the matter.
The Supreme Court will take up the case on 10 October.
