New Delhi:
The Supreme Court today came down heavily on the Chhattisgarh government for using tribals as special police officers (SPOs) or Koya commandos to tackle insurgency.
The top court has said SPO appointments are illegal and they should be stopped immediately.
The court also said that it was shocking the way Chhattisgarh was arming tribal minors and directed the state Government to withdraw all arms immediately.
The court order comes in the wake of a petition by a Delhi University professor Nandini Sunder seeking disbanding of SPOs.
