New Delhi: Justice PD Dinakaran, being investigated for corruption, came in for scathing criticism by the Supreme Court today.
Mr Dinakaran is currently the Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court. He is being investigated by a three-member committee, appointed by the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Vice President Hamid Ansari.
The formal inquiry began after the Rajya Sabha in December 209 initiated the process of Justice Dinakran's impeachment. He has challenged the committee's work, accusing one of its members, PP Rao, of being biased against him. He has also accused the committee of exceeding its brief by expanding its scope of inquiry against him.
The Supreme Court today rejected his petition against the committee as a tactic to delay his impeachment. The court asked Mr Ansari to replace Mr Rao on the committee, but said that the panel must continue its work.
Justice Dinakran has been accused of misusing his office to illegally acquire land in Tamil Nadu for himself and his family. He has also been charged with having wealth disproportionate to his income.
