New Delhi:
The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked all states to implement night shelter schemes for the homeless.
While appreciating the work done by the Delhi government, the Supreme Court said, "It is a human problem. Everyday people are dying."
Notices for implementing night shelter schemes have been sent to all states and Union Territories.
A bench headed by Justice Dalveer Bhandari passed the directions while expanding the scope of the PIL filed by the People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), seeking adequate night shelters for the homeless in the Capital on account of the cold wave conditions.
The Delhi government provided these facilities to the homeless after the apex court intervened and directed the authorities to forthwith provide shelters as a number of homeless were succumbing to the severe winter chill. (With PTI input)
