The Supreme Court will hear today a plea by Delhi University professor GN Saibaba seeking bail following his arrest for his alleged links with Maoists.
The Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Jagjit Singh Khehar asked the counsel for Maharashtra governemnt to take instructions that in case, he is taken to Nagpur to face the trial, then they have sufficient medical facilities for his treatment and lodging.
The court made it clear that the facilities have to be in a guest house and not in a jail.
The court also allowed Mr Saibaba to move an application seeking personal exemption from appearing before the trial court by Wednesday and the same will be considered on Friday.
Asking the counsel appearing for Maharashtra government to take instructions on professor Saibaba's plea for bail, the court said that he is seeking exemption from personal appearance he will not be there to influence the course of the trial.
