New Delhi:
The Supreme Court is today likely to decide on the curative petition filed by actor Sanjay Dutt that seeks a review of the court's verdict that sentenced him to five years in jail earlier this year.
A curative petition is filed after the dismissal of the review petition and is decided in the chambers of judges, not in open court. This is the last legal option for the actor.
The 53-year-old filmstar, who has been convicted in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case for illegal possession of weapons, surrendered before a special court in Mumbai on May 16. He is currently lodged in Pune's Yerawada Jail.
In March this year, the Supreme Court upheld his conviction in the case but reduced a trial court sentence of six years to five years. But the actor now has to serve 42 months in jail as he has already served 18 months 20 years ago, part of it at the Yerawada prison.
