At least two people were killed after a fire broke out at a packaging factory in Surat in Gujarat this morning, news agency ANI reported.
Around 125 people were rescued from the unit located in Kadodara industrial area, it said quoting an official. More than 100 people were pulled out by the hydraulic lift.
According to the police, more than 10 fire engines were used to extinguish the flames.
A video released by ANI showed a group of people standing on the roof of the building as they call for help. The workers were seen waving their hands to grab the attention of the firemen on the ground.
Some people allegedly jumped from the building to save their lives, a police official said.
"The workers working in the packaging unit were rescued by a hydraulic crane. Some people allegedly jumped from the building to save their lives. Two people have been reported dead and 125 people have been rescued so far by the fire department," said Rupal Solanki, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Bardoli division, was quoted as saying by ANI.
The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
