Surat: The Surat Police Commissioner Deepak Swaroop has been transferred after the gangrape of a teenager in a moving car by three men.
Meanwhile, anger boiled over in Surat after the gangrape of the teenage girl. Three of the accused, including the son of a cop, were attacked by a mob when they were brought to the civil hospital for a medical examination.
By the time the police could take control, all three were badly injured.
Says Subash Trivedi, Deputy Commissioner of Police: "The accused have suffered minor injuries."
The thee alleged rapists attacked the girl on Friday after she came out of a tuition class with her friend.
The men pretended to be policemen and forced the couple into their car and raped the girl in the moving car.
The two were later dumped on the road.
The incident has shocked Surat, once known as a safe city for women. Several residents came out to the streets on Saturday, demanding better policing in the city and strong action against the accused.
Said a resident: "We want the accused to be hanged. We demand better protection and safety for our daughters and ourselves."
