Sushma Swaraj Addresses a Press Conference on Modi Government's One Year in Power: Highlights

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj addressed a press conference in New Delhi on the Narendra Modi government's one year in power.

Here are the highlights from her speech:
 
  • We have had communication and discussions with 101 countries in the last one year
  • For the last 15 years, no PM had visited Nepal. No Foreign Minister had been a part of the JCM in Nepal for nearly 23 years
  • India and Pakistan have supported each other during difficult times, irrespective of the bitterness in our relationship
  • When the Peshawar incident happened, PM Narendra Modi called up Pakistan's Prime Minister assuring them that India is with them in this hour of need
  • Our relationship with Pakistan is based on three principles for dialogue: First that we are ready to solve all issues in a peaceful manner. Second that dialogue will be between India and Pakistan; no third party will be involved. Third that the talks will take place in a non-violent zone
  • It's true that one person who fled from Iraq says all the captives are dead, but I have eight sources that confirm that those Indians are alive
  • PM Modi will visit Israel this year. The date hasn't been finalised yet
  • As said earlier, our dialogue with Pakistan will only materialise in a peaceful milieu
  • This zone will be created only when Pakistan will take action against the perpetrators like Lakhvi and others
  • G-20 is expected to take place this year in Turkey, and PM Modi will be in attendance
  • We have sent a proposal for MoU to Germany saying we're ready to teach German as an additional language, but in return Germany must also teach Sanskrit or any other modern Indian language; Germany's response awaited
  • MHA has imposed ban on ISIS, it will be dealt with the way banned organisations are treated
  • There is no anti-India mood in Jammu and Kashmir
  • Indian and Bangladesh governments cannot just come to a conclusion on Teesta issue, the State government too has to be taken on board
