Suspected Maoist killed in a gun battle in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: A suspected Maoist was killed in a fierce gun battle with police in Odisha's Bolangir district on Friday, an official said.

Based on intelligence inputs about presence of Maoists in a forested area, a group of Special Operation Group (SOG) personnel raided the area in the district, about 450 km from Bhubaneswar.

When the suspect, aged around 25 years, began firing at the SOG team, it retaliated. He was killed in the exchange of fire, District Superintendent of Police R Prakash told IANS.

Some arms and ammunition were also recovered from the site, he added.

The latest incident comes three days after four Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were killed in a blast in Koraput district.
