SUV Washed Away In Flooded River In Chhattisgarh, 6 Persons Missing

Raipur: Six persons of a family went missing this afternoon as an SUV was swept away while crossing a flooded culvert across Maini river in Chhattisgarh's Jashpur district, police said.

The spot is around 400 km away from the state capital. "The incident took place around 3 pm when the SUV carrying 13 people was heading for Kailashgufa in the district," Jashpur Superintendent of Police Girijashankar Jaiswal told PTI.

It was carrying 12 members of a family, including four women and a girl, who were going to Kailashgufa from Baturbahar to immerse in water ashes of a relative who died recently.

While crossing the culvert between Durgapara and Kailashgufa on Maini river which was in spate, water level suddenly rose.

"Seven of them including the driver managed to get out of the vehicle before it was washed away," the SP said.

Divers were trying to trace the vehicle and the missing persons even as the area is being lashed by rains, the SP added.
