Kanpur: Ruling out possibilities of Swami Prasad Maurya joining Samajwadi Party, Uttar Pradesh PWD Minister and senior party leader Shivpal Yadav today alleged the former BSP leader has lost his "mental balance" and "needs treatment" and that the BSP has given him " much more than he deserves".

After leaving BSP two days ago, Mr Maurya yesterday described SP as a "party of goons".

Asked to reflect on Mr Maurya's remarks, Mr Shivpal said, "He has lost his mental balance and needs treatment. The BSP has given him much more than he deserves."

The SP leader also denied reports of internal rifts in the party over its merger with Quami Ekta Dal (QED). Mr Yadav clarified that Afzal Ansari and one of his brothers have joined hands with SP but not Mukhtar Ansari, adding that Afzal had joined hands with SP in the past as well.

Referring to the report submitted by a five-member team of Hindu saints, constituted by SP, on the alleged Hindu migration in Kairana, Mr Yadav said saints are not associated with any political party.

The saints have rejected the exodus theory of BJP and pointed towards a "dangerous conspiracy" to disturb communal harmony in the state in their report.

The minister today inaugurated a bridge over the Ganga in Kanpur which will make commuting to Lucknow easier.
