Sweeper turns surgeon in MP hospital

Chhatarpur, MP:

Ram Charan Balmiki is a sweeper at the district hospital in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh. But recently, he doubled up as a surgeon and performed an operation. His patient was a three-year-old child with a problem on the neck. Balmiki claims he acted on the doctor's orders.

"The doctor asked me to perform the operation," he said.

The doctor, however, claimed he had only asked the sweeper to prepare for the surgery.

"I had asked for the child to be taken to the OPD where the sweeper was present. I told the sweeper to prepare for the operation, but when I reached there, the patient had left," said Dr R C Mishra.

Now, the Chief Medical Officer has said that an inquiry will be conducted into the incident.

The child's family is also worried as they now know that the man who conducted the surgery is not a doctor.

"It's a matter of my child. For the time being, it's alright but we are still worried," said Ram Jeevan Mishra, the patient's father.

Meanwhile, the child's condition is said to be stable.
