BJP workers celebrate the expected announcement of Narendra Modi as PM candidate
New Delhi:
As the BJP prepared to name Narendra Modi their Prime Ministerial candidate on Friday, drums and firecrackers signaled celebrations at the party's offices in Delhi and other cities.
A sea of workers greeted Mr Modi at the party's headquarters in the heart of Delhi this evening.
The rumblings at the top over party veteran LK Advani's refusal to support Mr Modi failed to dampen the spirits of party workers, who burst firecrackers and distributed sweets to the hundreds of workers standing outside. Some religious leaders were also spotted, waiting to recite holy chants.
Crowds of BJP workers in Mumbai danced to the beat of drums and circulated sweets. It was in Mumbai that the news first became official after BJP Chief Rajnath Singh spoke to Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray.
