Swine flu: Airports on alert

Swine flu: Airports on alert
New Delhi:

World over governments are gearing up to tackle swine flu. In India, screens have been set up at all international airports to ensure that passengers coming from affected countries do not bring in the swine-flu virus.

Doctors say that India has a slight advantage since our climate and body type gives us some natural immunity against the virus. But with the virus slowly getting more virulent, and no vaccine, the immunity is not likely to last very long.

Doctors in Delhi are getting frantic calls from people, all wanting to know about the spread of the swine flu virus in India.

"There are lots of calls coming in. People wanting to travel abroad are asking what places to avoid," says Dr Neeraj Jain, HoD, Respiratory Medicine, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.

The biggest fear for most of them is that with symptoms very similar to those of a normal flu, how does one differentiate swine flu?

So, here is what you need to know:

  • Initially the symptoms are cough, fever, bodyache and breathlessness
  • Consult a doctor immediately; there is no distinctive symptom
