Bangalore:
A mother and child in Bangalore infected with H1N1 were safely quarantined. But is the city safe?
International Airport authorities refuse to let the media see how their screening works. But passengers say it all.
''Precautionary measures taken at the airport were not satisfactory. They made us fill out the forms. We thought they would check us, but all they did was check our ear temperature and sealed our passports and let us go,'' says Purnascheel, a NRI Student.
Over 2,500 people arrive in the city of Bangalore on international flights everyday. And then there are the ground staff also at high risk.
On Tuesday night, an Air France staffer suspected of the flu has been isolated.
There are thousands of possible cases and just one isolation facility with 12 beds.
With only two cases testing positive this far for the H1N1 virus, things seem to be under control in Bangalore. But what if these numbers swell in the days to come?
"The Victoria Hospital ward is identified and ready with approximately 12 beds. It's being specially renovated for this purpose," said Dr T S Chaluvaraj, Joint Director, Communicable Diseases for Influenza H1N1.
