Swine flu scare in Delhi school

Swine flu scare in Delhi school
New Delhi:

After the swine flu scare, a Delhi school on Thursday suspended an entire class for a week. The school took precautions when one of its students tested positive to the H1N1 virus.

The 14-year-old girl and her family had gone with friends on a vacation to Malaysia. The entire group of 12 people were diagnosed positive.

The girl had attended school for two days before she tested positive. Concerned that she could have infected her class, the school first wanted to shut the school down like in the US, where 400 schools were shut down.

"It is just one child in one school. I don't think we need to panic and shut down schools. The school has taken whatever measures but this is more than what is necessary. We do not need to panic," said Kiran Walia, Health Minister, Delhi.

So far, India has reported over 250 HIN1 positive cases, but fortunately the virus has not proved lethal yet.

But schools show extra concern because children are more vulnerable, and parents have welcomed the decision.
