The Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded that Assam Governor Syed Sibte Razi, who is under pressure to quit after facing corruption charges, should resign immediately.
Earlier on Tuesday, sources told NDTV that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has asked the Assam Governor to quit and save the UPA government from embarrassment.
CBI raids are said to have affirmed reports of alleged corruption in the Jharkhand Raj Bhawan, when Razi was the state governor. Razi has apparently told the Prime Minister that he needed some time to explain his side of the story to Sonia Gandhi.
PTI adds:
Razi on Tuesday asserted that he would complete his full term in office.
"It is all false. There is no allegation. Whatever has come in the newspapers are all false," Razi said when asked about reports of corruption in the Jharkhand Raj Bhavan.
Asked whether he would be completing his term, which is coming to an end in October, Razi said he would complete his term as Governor of Assam.
