Lucknow:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted his sharp disapproval today of a temple that was to be dedicated to him in Gujarat on Sunday.
However, Azam Khan, a senior minister in the Uttar Pradesh government, says he would like a temple to be built for his boss, Mulayam Singh Yadav, who is the head of the Samajwadi Party.
"I will place a proposal before 'netaji' (Mulayam) for constructing a temple for him. If he gives his consent, work will start for the same," said Mr Khan.
Justifying his stand, the minister said that Mr Yadav is a popular leader and has many followers.
In a village 130 miles from Ahmedabad, a group of admirers of the PM Modi were planning to throw open a temple with an idol of him on Sunday to the public. They said they had changed their mind after he tweeted a reprimand.
