Tamil Nadu: Jayalalithaa's arches demolished
Chennai: Mayawati's statue politics is facing the heat from Supreme Court, and she is not alone. The Tamil Nadu government has brought down two highway arches erected in the Perambalur district marking the 57th birthday of AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa.

These were built by an AIADMK functionary when Jayalalithaa was the chief minister.

The local body granted permission for these, but the Supreme Court had ordered their demolition a few months ago, citing violation of the highways act.

The highways department chose to bring down these structures on the day Amma returned from her vacation.
