Tirunelvelli, Tamil Nadu:
Over 2000 people are on a hunger strike demanding the closure of the upcoming Koodankulam nuclear power plant in Tamil Nadu's Tirunelvelli district citing safety reasons.
They are also demanding the state assembly to pass a resolution in their support.
This is the first nuclear plant that's nearing completion after the explosion at the Fukushima plant in Japan during the recent tsunami that led to the evacuation of around two lakh people.
The 1000-MW reactor is being made using Russian technology. Department of Atomic Energy insists the plants are safe.
