Guwahati:
Tarun Gogoi addressed the media again today in Guwahati in an attempt to assuage the situation in the state. Here are some of the highlights of the press conference he held.
There is fear and terror, among both communities. It's not only one community that has been targeted. We'll seek development of the area and we will take it up with the Prime Minister.
The primary job is to restore confidence among people.
For people who have left their homes, job is to make sure that they return safely.
We will try to look into how to improve situation of the Bodos. We will make sure that the land rights are looked into according to Bodo Accord.
The rights of the land have been safeguarded.
The BJP is giving a communal colour to this but this is not communal clash. There are no people who have come in from Bangladesh.
Not justifying the violence, just saying that there is a history.
Conflict resolution can be tackled through economic development. There has been a history of ethnic clashes. Assam is a complicated state.
The Centre gave us no intelligence reports and if the Centre says they did, then why wasn't the Army sent in earlier?
Don't want to get into controversies but we had requisitioned central forces immediately.
I am not worried about my MPs complaint. I am worried about my people. It is my job to stop the violence.
