Teacher Gets One Year Jail For Posing as Ex-Gujarat Minister's Wife

Rajkot: A local court in Bhuj has sentenced a woman teacher to jail for one year for posing as the wife of former Gujarat minister Jaynarayan Vyas for securing rooms in a government guest house for herself and her family in 2010.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate R R Zimba handed down the punishment to the city-based Vasvi Vyas (54) yesterday after finding her guilty of the charge.

According to the prosecution, Vyas, working as a teacher in a private school in Rajkot, had gone to Bhuj along with her five family members on November 12, 2010.

The prosecution said she posed as the wife of then Tourism Minister Jaynarayan Vyas and got two rooms booked in Bhuj Circuit House.

However, the woman's fake identity came to light after local BJP leaders went to the Circuit House to meet her on November 13, 2010.

"Circuit House telephone operator Dharmendra Soni had lodged a complaint with Bhuj police station," said public prosecutor P M Gameti.

"The woman told the police that she is a resident of Rajkot and impersonated as the minister's wife for the purpose of securing rooms at the guest house,"  Mr Gameti said.

"However, the magistrate ordered Vyas' release on probation under sections 4 & 5 of the Probation of Offenders' Act to give her an opportunity for reformation," the public prosecutor said.
