Teachers' recruitment scam: former Haryana chief minister Chautala, son to spend night in Tihar Jail
New Delhi: A Delhi court has found former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, his son Ajay Chautala and 53 others guilty in the case of alleged illegal recruitment of over 3000 junior basic trained (JBT) teachers.

The Chautalas and the others have been taken into custody and an order on their sentence will be pronounced on January 22.

"The law is doing its work and those who break the law face the consequences," said Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

The former chief minister's son, Abhay Chautala, who is president of the Indian Olympic Association, however claims, "The entire process of recruitment was done during Bansi Lal's government." He added, "there are higher courts as well."

The CBI had on June 6, 2008, chargesheeted the Chautalas and others in connection with the scam relating to appointment of 3,206 junior basic teachers in the state during 1999-2000.

Two IAS officers, Sanjiv Kumar and Mr Chautala's former Officer on Special Duty Vidya Dhar were named in the CBI chargesheet in which it was alleged that the father-son duo had used forged documents to appoint the teachers.
