Members of Team Anna, who were protesting near the venue where Congress President Sonia Gandhi was laying the foundation of a road project, were lathicharged in Rae Bareli after they tried to stop her motorcade.
Mrs Gandhi had stepped out of the car to meet some locals when some members of Team Anna, who were sitting on a dharna in solidarity with their agitation in Delhi, tried to block the convoy.
The Congress President today laid the foundation stone for widening of the Lucknow-Rae Bareli road and other projects here.
75-year-old Anna Hazare and his aides are protesting at Delhi's Jantar Mantar against the government. The activists want the government to sanction an independent inquiry against the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other cabinet ministers, who Team Anna says showed complicity in different scams which have hurt the interests of the country.
