Arun Jaitley said technology allows people to interact with the government at a minimal cost.
New Delhi:
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday said technology has empowered common people and made governments accountable.
Interacting with people during a Town Hall-style event organised in Delhi to mark the second anniversary of MyGov platform, he said it allows people to interact with the government at a minimal cost.
"It disseminates information. It also improves accountability of the government," he said, adding that people, specially youth living in smaller cities, are also able to get same information that a person in big cities would have.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Law and Justice and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad also expressed similar views, saying that "digital democracy is the essence of India and MyGovIndia is the biggest platform that showcases it".
He said technology advancement has been able to provide media tools that help build pressure on the government and the opposition as well.
"I think India is getting engaged," he said.
