The 15 year old girl was taken to the Kannauj district hospital, but had to be shifted to Kanpur because of her serious injuries.
Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh:
A 15-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by six people in front of her parents in Uttar Pradesh's Kannauj district, represented in Parliament by Dimple Yadav, the wife of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. Five of the accused have been arrested by the police.
The teen is in a critical condition in hospital. She was allegedly assaulted by six people who first beat her parents, tied up her father and even hit her infant sister.
"They came around 11am to our place, they beat up my husband and tied his hands. They wanted money and jewellery. Then they raped my daughter in front of us. We kept begging for them to let her go, but they didn't listen and our daughter was crying. There were 6 people who raped her in front of my eyes," the girl's mother told NDTV.
"They hit me and my old mother-in-law. They also hit my one year old daughter because she was crying. They hit her so hard that she fainted."
After the attack, the men locked up the family and ran away. They are missing.
The girl was taken to the district hospital but had to be shifted to Kanpur because of her serious injuries.
The incident has emerged as Mrs Yadav's father-in-law Mulayam Singh Yadav, the chief of the ruling Samajwadi Party, faces widespread condemnation for his comment that gang-rapes are "not practical".
Mr Yadav sad said in Tuesday, "Often if one person commits rape, four people are named in the complaint. Four people are named for rape, can it be possible? It is not practical. They probably say one was watching...another was there... If there are four brothers, then all four are named."
