A teenage girl along with her 37-year-old boyfriend killed her parents with a hammer and a pressure cooker in Jamshedpur after they stopped her from leaving the house and marrying him, police said on Tuesday.
The couple was found in a pool of blood at their house in Manifit in Telco police station area on Monday with their 15-year-old daughter missing, they said.
Claiming to crack the case in less than 24 hours, Superintendent of Police (City) K Vijay Shankar said that the girl and her boyfriend were caught from his rented house in Omnagar in Birsanagar police station area on Tuesday morning.
The girl was about to elope from her house with her boyfriend on Sunday night and get married, but her parents woke up, he said.
As her father, 42, and mother, 35, stopped them from leaving, the accused duo thrashed them with a hammer and a pressure cooker to death, the officer added.
The girl then escaped with her boyfriend on his scooter, and went to his house.
Police said they have recovered the hammer, blood-stained pressure cooker and the scooter.
A case under relevant sections of the IPC, including 302 (murder), was registered, they said.
Neighbours first spotted the body on Monday morning after noticing that the main gate of the house was open, triggering tension in the industrial town in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district.
