New Delhi: The Home Ministry has sought a report from Goa Police on the Tarun Tejpal sexual assault case, Minister of State for Home RPN Singh said today.
"MHA (ministry of home affairs) has asked Goa Police to give full information about the case," Mr Singh told reporters.
Tehelka founder-editor Tarun Tejpal is accused of sexually assaulting a colleague twice during a conference the weekly magazine held in Goa earlier this month. His residence in Delhi was searched by Goa Police Friday morning, and he has been granted anticipatory bail till 2.30 pm.
The minister also said any case of misconduct against women should be punished, and mentioned the alleged snooping of a young unmarried woman from Bangalore by former Gujarat home minister Amit Shah.
"Central government has framed a strong law for safety of women, and if anyone is accused of snooping, stalking, or outraging a woman's modesty, there should be immediate action and it should be above politics," Mr Singh said.
The Congress has been repeatedly attacking Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and his aide and confidant Amit Shah over the accusations of snooping of a woman. The BJP has said the movements of the woman were monitored at her father's request
