Hyderabad:
The fate of Andhra Pradesh Congress president D Srinivas, TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao's son K T Rama Rao and other candidates in the by-polls held for 12 assembly seats in Telangana region would be known on Friday.
The counting of votes for the by-polls, held on July 27, would begin at 8:00 am at seven centres.
The Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements for the counting. Aiming at ensuring transparency in the counting votes, the whole process will be video recorded, state Chief Electoral Officer I V Subba Rao said, "Mobile phones and smoking would not be allowed inside the counting halls. Only authorised persons would be allowedinside. We are taking several precautions."
While electronic voting machines (EVMs) were used for polls in seven seats, the poll was held with ballot papers for five seats. Ballot papers were used in the elections to the five seats as the number of candidates had exceeded the maximum limit of 64. With existing technology, EVMs cannot be used if number of candidates exceed 64.
While Srinivas is contesting from Nizamabad Urban, Rama Rao is seeking re-election from Sircilla. The by-polls were necessitated as the sitting MLAs had
quit their posts in support of separate Telangana.
