Telangana crisis: Consultations on, hope Centre finds amicable solution soon, says Kiran Kumar Reddy

New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy has said that consultations over Telangana are on with the Central leadership and that he hopes that the Centre will soon find an amicable solution.

"I have come to discuss about the happenings in the state and aspirations of the people of Andhra and to find an amicable solution with the Congress party leaders in Delhi. I have given my opinion about the situation there, they are having wide consultations," Mr Reddy said.

"Central leaders are having discussion, they will try to solve problem as soon as possible. Soon they will come up with a solution which is amicable, will fulfill aspirations of the people," he added.

The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister also rubbished reports that the state is heading towards President's Rule.

Mr Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha are in Delhi for consultations with the Central leadership over the Telangana issue. Mr Reddy is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh later in the day.

A Congress Core Group meeting is underway over the issue.

The Chief Minister, who arrived in Delhi early this morning, has met senior Congress leaders Pranab Mukherjee, AK Antony, P Chidambaram and Ghulam Nabi Azad.

Governor ESL Narasimhan has already met the Prime Minister and is understood to have briefed him about the situation in the agitation-hit region.

The meeting assumes significance as the general strike in Telangana region entered the 27th day today amid indications that the agitation would be intensified in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Congress MPs from Telangana also met among themselves this morning and have threatened to join the agitation and go on an indefinite fast. They have also said that if the Governor gives adverse report on Telangana, they will write to the President asking for his recall.

Andhra Pradesh has been crippled by the indefinite strike for nearly a month now. Road and rail transport, electricity supply and offices have all been hit by the agitation. But the Congress has ruled out imposition of President's Rule in the state.

"We have met various leaders, our legislators from the state. We need to hold further talks on the issue. Where does the question of President's rule arise?" said Ghulam Nabi Azad, Congress leader and party's Andhra Pradesh in-charge.

Earlier this week, the PM had sought to defuse the Telangana crisis by meeting TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao and Congress leaders from the region during which he sought some more time to resolve the issue. However, Rao had rejected Singh's appeal to call off the strike.
