Telangana row: Seemandhra Congress leaders to meet on Thursday

Hyderabad: Congress leaders from coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions plan to hold a meeting on October 17 to discuss their future course of action on the issue of the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

"We are making sincere efforts for a united Andhra Pradesh and will continue our efforts. We will meet on October 17 to discuss our next course of action," AP Primary Education Minister S Sailajanath, leader of the Seemandhra Congress MLAs and MLCs Forum, told reporters today.

The meeting comes against the backdrop of some Seemandhra Congress leaders allegedly speaking in different voices on the issue after the Union Cabinet endorsing the formation of a separate Telangana state.

Congress leaders in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions continue to face opposition from "united" Andhra Pradesh supporters, even after two months of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) nod to a separate Telangana state.

While some Congress leaders said they would present Seemandhra's case before the Group of Ministers (GoM) constituted to go into the issues concerning AP's bifurcation, many other Congress leaders said they would continue to make efforts to keep Andhra Pradesh stay "united".
