New Delhi:
A Delhi court has convicted multi-crore counterfeit stamp paper scam accused Abdul Karim Telgi and four others after they admitted their guilt in a case of recovery of such documents with face value of Rs 2.57 lakh from the capital.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjay Bansal held Telgi, for the third time in less than a fortnight, guilty of criminal conspiracy, cheating and other provisions of the Indian Penal Code, and of other offences under the Indian Stamp Act.
Telgi, lodged in a Bangalore jail, appeared before the court through video conferencing and admitted all the charges against him.
"I plead my guilt voluntarily," he said when the judge questioned him about the charges.
Similarly, the other accused Sohail Khan and Sachin Kalge, who also appeared from Bangalore jail through video conferencing, admitted their guilt, after which the court convicted them.
Two other accused Vijay D Patil and Laxman Maruti, who appeared from Pune jail, were also held guilty in the case after they admitted the charges levelled against them.
The court fixed May five as the date for pronouncing the sentence against them.
The case against them relates to recovery of fake stamp papers with face value of Rs 2.57 lakh from Delhi's Defence Colony locality.
