A terrorist was killed in a pre-dawn operation by security forces in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir today, police said.
Security forces launched a joint operation after receiving a tip-off about presence of terrorists at a house in Gadole village in Kokernag area.
"We can't say anything about the number of terrorists killed until we recover the bodies. So far we have recovered one body" said Sawaym Prakash Pani, Inspector General of Police.
Police say terrorists fired at the team - consisting Jammu and Kashmir police, CRPF and Army - as soon as they approached the site, triggering a gunfight.
Official sources say the security forces used improvised explosive devices and blew the house where the terrorists were holed up to neutralise them. No casualties were reported to security forces, they added.
The operation was launched a day after series of target killings by terrorists in Kashmir. In last two days, five persons including three off-duty policemen have been killed by terrorists.
The policemen, among them an officer of Inspector rank, were on leave to celebrate Eid with their families when terrorists barged into their houses and killed them in cold blood.
Meanwhile, police say they have conducted series of overnight operations. In Pulwama district two terrorists hideouts were busted, said a police officer.
