Srinagar:
Two terrorists have been killed in an encounter that is still underway with security forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir. The gun battle started early this morning after security launched an operation in Bahmnoo area of Pulwama, 40 km from capital Srinagar, when they received information about the presence of three terrorists.
While two of them have been killed, one is still firing at the security forces.
The operation comes barely 10 hours after civilian protesters helped a group of terrorists escape a cordon and search operation in the Malangpora village of the same district.
The protesters had clashed with the security forces late on Sunday evening forcing them to call off the operation near the military air base in Koil.
Meanwhile, in Anantnag town of south Kashmir today, a policeman was shot at and injured by terrorists, police said.
Constable Ghulam Hassan was deployed on normal security duty in Anantnag when terrorists fired at him. The constable, critically injured, was unarmed at the time of the attack, a police official said. He has been shifted a hospital.
On Saturday, top Lashkar terrorist Bashir Lashkari and his associate was killed in a major gun battle with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district. This comes less than a fortnight after the Lashkar-e-Taiba commander led an ambush that killed station house officer of the state police Feroz Dar and five other policemen.
