Terrorists attacked policemen guarding the PDP leader's house and snatched their AK 47 rifles in Srinagar
A group of 6-8 terrorists on Sunday attacked policemen who were guarding the house of a leader of Jammu and Kashmir's ruling PDP in Srinagar. They overpowered the security personnel and escaped after snatching four AK-47 rifles.
The guard post outside the residence of Advocate Jawed Ahmed Sheikh, district President of PDP, was attacked at around 9.30 pm yesterday, a police officer said. The men made the guards surrender on gunpoint and walked away with their weapons.
An alert has been sounded in south Kashmir area to trace the terrorists, the officer said, adding, this is the fifth such incident when weapons were snatched from police personnel in Kashmir since the ongoing unrest in the Valley.
Over 80 people have been killed and nearly 10,000 injured in the valley in clashes between protesters and security personnel, since the killing of Hizbul terrorist Burhan Wani on July 8.
