Yamuna Nagar: A couple in Haryana had a shock when they learnt that their little daughter Ishika had thalassaemia, a genetic disorder that leads to anaemia and requires frequent blood transfusions.
In a few weeks, she was about to have a bone marrow transplant. Her parents believed that will give her some relief.
But the parents are shattered today, as their trauma did not end there. They have now found out that their six-year-old daughter is HIV positive.
Parents are blaming it on a hospital in Yamuna Nagar, where she used to go every month for blood transfusion.
",We are broken, we never thought this can happen. This is because of the blood from the blood bank,", said Pooja Rajpal, mother of Ishika.
",We don't know what to do. The blood bank is responsible for what has happened,", said Rajesh Rajpal, father of Ishika.
Last month, their daughter was referred to PGI Chandigarh, where doctors diagnosed her HIV positive.
But the doctor in charge of the blood bank in Yamuna Nagar denied that infected blood was given to the girl.
",The blood we have is all tested. They might have got it from some other hospital or blood bank,", said Dr Munish Rathi, Red Cross blood bank, Yamuna Nagar.
No excuse can convince the girl's parents who are shocked at the very thought that their daughter will have to live the rest of her life with the deadly virus.
