Thane: A 58-year-old man from Rabodi in the city allegedly attempted suicide by pouring kerosene on himself at his residence this morning, police said.
The victim, Abdul Manna Kazi, was immediately rushed to Thane Civil Hospital and is said to be out of danger. "Mr Kazi tried to commit suicide by pouring kerosene on himself, but was immediately taken to Thane civil hospital by his neighbours," Inspector S T Jadhav, of Rabodi police station, said.
"Police found that Mr Kazi had written a 'suicide note' in Hindi (Roman script), which states that he was taking the extreme step as local NCP corporator had been pressurising him since the last ten years to grab his property," the officer said.
According to police, the purported suicide note became viral on social media.
Mr Kazi owns a chawl in Rabodi. The tenants were asking him for repairs as it had become "dangerous", the police said.
