Weeks after he stepped down as minister, Shashi Tharoor could well be courting controversy again.

The Congress MP is in Thiruvananthapuram as the new Kochi IPL franchise discusses preparations for Season 4 of the Indian Premier League. The new team is meeting the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) and the state's Sports Minister today.

Tharoor had to resign last month after his involvement with the Kochi franchise came under a cloud.

The MP, who prefers to call himself no more than a well-wisher of the IPL Kochi team, spent some time at the KCA headquarters, but did not attend the meeting between KCA office bearers and Rendezvouz Sports representatives to discuss infrastructure facilities needed for hosting the IPL Kochi team in the next season.

Tharoor met media persons and made a brief presentation about the importance of the IPL team for Kerala in terms of promoting young talent and also strengthening Kerala's economy.

"They are seeking an appointment with the Chief Minister and they will call on the Opposition leader. Because sports is above politics, all parties should support the idea for an IPL team for Kerala in Kerala. It is important to have a strong relationship between the IPL Kochi team and Kerala Cricket Association," Tharoor said.

He, however, refused to answer any question from reporters.
