The Metro fear factor

New Delhi: It's a daily routine for Vasundha and her friend - both college students catch a bus from a stop right next to a Metro construction site. And every day, to escape the heat they stand under a certain structure.

However, after 2 accidents in 24 hours at a metro site in Delhi, things are different. The accidents have led to safety restrictions be put in place at other sites as well.

"We are not allowed to sit under the structure anymore. I guess they are scared that something may happen," said Vasudha.

Back to back accidents at the metro site in south Delhi has affected people in the area. A school that's right next to the collapsed bridge isn't taking chances.

The front entrance that faces the metro site is closed and students are taking the side gate.

A day after the accident, attendance dropped 10 per cent. Clearly, parents are worried about their children's safety.

"I was a bit scared. So I did not send him to school since it was my responsibility," said Pushpanjali Ganguly, a parent.

Meanwhile, authorities at Metro construction sites across the capital are revising security arrangements. For instance in the one near the airport road they have even re-checked the equipment.
