'The Train Tilted Over and Then I Passed Out': Train Accident Survivor

Rescue work in progress after 12 coaches of the Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express derailed near Chapra in Bihar.

Chapra: Four people were killed and nearly 20 injured when 12 coaches of a train traveling from Delhi to Assam derailed today in Bihar.

Rita Nath of Guwahati was among the nearly 500 passengers who were on the train. She was hurt on her head and chest.

"All the passengers in my coach had dinner early and went to sleep. "I was sleeping on my berth when I suddenly felt the train tilting to one side. It tumbled over before I could get up. I lost consciousness after that," she told reporters at a hospital in Patna.

"I regained consciousness after some time. It was dark all around. My limbs were numb and my head was paining. Some people pulled me out," she said.

13-year-old Mauli Dhawan was sleeping when the accident took place. Mauli said, "One uncle broke the window of my coach. He pressed my head, which was bleeding. Somebody wrapped a bandage and I was brought here."

After some officials suggested the train accident was the result of sabotage by Naxal insurgents, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said, "I have spoken directly to rail officials on the spot. The Prime Minister has been informed regarding all developments. Even he agrees that it is too early to blame the Naxals. Let us wait for further report on the incident."

His remarks came after Railway Board Chairman Arunendra Kumar derailment. "Prima facie, it appears to be a case of sabotage. There was a blast on the track, which could have caused the derailment."
