There was intelligence alert, Nitish Kumar ignored it, says BJP
New Delhi: The BJP has said that contrary to what Nitish Kumar has claimed, his government in Bihar was warned that there could be some sort of terror strike in Patna for Sunday's rally for the party's prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi.

Six people were killed and 83 injured in a series of crude bomb explosions that ended shortly before Mr Modi delivered his speech to a crowd of tens of thousands at Gandhi Maidan.

BJP leader Arun Jaitley told NDTV that "My sources also tell me that there was a general alert on October 1, a specific alert on October 23 on Indian Mujahideen with regards to Hunkar rally."

"I was told by Gujarat police officer present there that the Bihar police was reluctant about advance security liaison. The security was callous and casual, inadequate," Mr Jaitley added.

However, Patna's Additional Director-General (ADG), Ravindra Kumar, told reporters today that there were no specific inputs. "Clarifications were given at the highest level yesterday, there is nothing more to be said," he said.

Earlier in the day, Mr Jaitley had pointed out that after Mr Modi was declared the BJP's choice for prime minister last month, central intelligence agencies had warned all state governments about the Indian Mujahideen threat to Mr Modi and had also pointed out the increase in the number of his meetings.
