Third case of swine flu in Delhi

Third case of swine flu in Delhi
New Delhi:

The third case of swine flu has been confirmed in Delhi with a person who returned from Boston testing positive.

Test results of five other people who've complained of flu symptoms are awaited. Two of them are from Mumbai and three in Delhi.

All of them are currently in isolation wards at designated hospitals.

Earlier, in a shocking and dangerous breach of health safety rules, the Delhi government allowed a well-connected patient suffering from swine flu to stay at home and not be quarantined in a government-designated place.

The Health Ministry was furious with the state government and wrote a letter to the chief secretary.

The patient returned from New York recently and went to his farm house in South Delhi. As a result of being allowed to stay at home, the patient's mother also got swine flu.

UN calls emergency meet on H1N1

Meanwhile, UN health officials have called an emergency meeting to discuss the sudden rise in swine flu after WHO said it is waiting for 'undisputable evidence' before declaring a pandemic.

The virus emerged in Mexico in April and since then thousands of cases have been confirmed throughout North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia. The virus has spread to 74 countries.

Australia is emerging as a worst-hit after 1200 cases have been confirmed, which is a four-fold increase in a week.

In fact the UN crisis meet and WHO move follows the steep rise of flu in Australia.
