Third Missing Car Raises Alarm, Santro With Army Stickers Stolen in Delhi

Police have been looking for the stolen SUV of a police officer and a taxi (File Photo) that went missing after it was hired for Pathankot.

New Delhi: A white Santro car with an Army hospital sticker was stolen in Delhi on Sunday. This is the third missing car to worry the police and security agencies ahead of the Republic Day celebrations on Tuesday.

The police say the owner of the car had come for a picnic with his family at the Lodhi Gardens when his car went missing. Police teams in Delhi and its neighbouring areas have been alerted.

The police have been looking for the stolen SUV of a police officer, with a blue beacon, and a taxi that went missing after it was hired for Pathankot, the town where terrorists attacked an air base on January 2.

A brand new Tata Safari was stolen on Wednesday from the home of Anand Swarup, the Inspector General of the Indo Tibetan Border Police or ITBP.

The same day, the driver of a taxi hired from Himachal Pradesh by three men was found mysteriously dead. The car is also missing.

The missing vehicles have caused alarm weeks after the January 2 Pathankot attack, in which the stolen car of a police officer helped the terrorists get past several check posts a day before the attack.

Police across India are on guard ahead of Republic Day, which will feature French President Francois Hollande as Chief Guest.  A letter reportedly from Chennai and warning against Mr Hollande's visit was delivered on January 11 to the French consulate in Bengaluru.

The National Investigation Agency has arrested 13 terror suspects, believed to be sympathisers of the ISIS, from across the country.
Security experts believe that an ISIS threat "is very real".
