Third Soldier in His Family, He Leaves Behind A Heartbroken Wife, Mother

It was just five months ago that Shishir had come home for the cremation of his father who also served in the Army.

Dehradun: Condolences, consolations and condemnations mean little to Sangeeta and her mother-in-law.

Scores of people, including Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat, have thronged to their little house in Dehradun's Chandrabani since Wednesday to visit the family, but Rifleman Shishir Thapa, is not coming back.

The 32-year-old soldier was killed in a nine-hour gun-battle between security forces and a terrorist in Jammu and Kashmir's Rafiabad area of Baramulla district on Wednesday.

His body, wrapped in the tri-colour, reached his family early morning yesterday.

Inconsolable, they are barely able to comprehend the logistics of the funeral let alone worry about Shishir's brother, who is stationed with the 11 Gorkha Rifles regiment of the Army.

It was just five months ago that Shishir had come home for the cremation of his father who also served in the Army.

"I don't know if I should call it a blessing that he was martyred serving the country or a tragedy because he will never come back to his family," Chief Minister Harish Rawat said.

"He truly walked in the path that his father did. The state government will stand by those he has left behind," Mr Rawat said.
