A 28-year-old man became the third victim of swine flu in Karnataka where 15 confirmed cases of H1N1 virus were reported on Saturday, health officials said.

Manjunath, who was suffering from fever and respiratory problem for the past ten days, was admitted to a hospital here on August 13, they said.

He was immediately put on ventilator due to low oxygen saturation in the blood but died last evening.

The swab results, which tested positive for H1N1 virus, were received late on Friday.

Earlier, the disease had claimed the life of 55 year-old Shivanna at a private hospital on Friday and that of a 26 year-old school teacher Roopa on August 12.

According to health officials, the 15 positive cases were reported from Bangalore, taking the overall number of confirmed cases to 141 in the state.

While a total of 78 cases have so far recovered and discharged from hospitals, 63 cases are being treated at various hospitals in Bangalore, Manipal and Mangalore.

As on date, samples of 595 suspected H1N1 flu cases have been collected and the number of air passengers screened in Bangalore and Mangalore airports had crossed 3.39 lakh.

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, in his Independence Day address on Saturday, assured the public that steps are being taken to prevent the spread of swine flu.
