The Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee announced that the Golden Temple will neither be adorned with fancy lights nor would it witness any fireworks this Diwali.
Chandigarh:
In turmoil-hit Punjab, the festival of lights, Diwali, will be dimmed this year. After protests over the alleged desecration of the holy book 'Guru Granth Sahib', the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee has announced that the Golden Temple will neither be adorned with fancy lights nor would it witness any fireworks this Diwali.
Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, a religious body of the Sikh community, has also urged Sikhs to observe a black Diwali and not light up their houses with fancy lights or candles this year.
Punjab was hit by massive protests over the alleged desecration of Guru Granth Sahib in Faridkot, earlier this month. Two people, who were protesting, were killed in firing at Behbal Kalan village.
The Punjab government has formed a single-judge judicial commission to look into the entire incident.
Last week, Sumedh Singh Saini was replaced by Suresh Arora as Director General of Police by the Badal government due to the law and order situation in the state.
